A demonstration. This is not the city's website. It is a working proposal for the City of Edinburg, built with the city's real seal, officials and departments. Every agenda item, vote, vehicle and dollar figure is invented, and each page says so. Accessibility

What this site commits to, how it is checked, and what is still missing.

The standard

This site is built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Body text exceeds Level AAA for contrast. Automated checks catch roughly a third of real barriers, so they are a floor and not a certificate: this page says what is checked automatically and what is not.

Checked on every build, before it can publish

  • A unique page title, one h1, and no skipped heading level.
  • Alternative text on every image, and a name on every control and link.
  • A skip link and a main landmark on every page.
  • Every internal link resolves to a page that exists.
  • Every colour pair a reader sees passes a contrast test, run before the build starts.
  • Colour is never the only way information is given — every state carries a word.
  • On the fleet map, two markers can end up close enough to overlap at some zoom levels, which is a limit of any pan-and-zoom map. Every vehicle is also a row in the table under it — the equivalent control WCAG 2.5.8 allows — and zooming in separates them.
  • Nothing on this site moves by itself. The hero is a still photograph, there is no carousel and no autoplay anywhere, so there is nothing a reader has to stop.

What you can change

From the top of any page: text size, higher contrast, less motion, and plain language first. The choice is remembered on your device and follows you across the site.

Not checked automatically

Whether the writing is actually clear. Whether a screen reader user can complete a task, not merely reach it. Whether the Spanish reads as Spanish rather than as translated English. Those need people, and this proposal does not pretend a script replaces them.
