Annual 9/11 remembrance: a 5K on 5 September and a ceremonial walk on 11 September

The walk covers a 911-metre route around City Hall and back to Fire Station 1, starting at 9:11 a.m.

In remembrance of the sacrifices made by first responders in New York City on 11 September 2001, the City of Edinburg will host the 6th Annual 9/11 Patriot Day of Remembrance 5K Memorial Run on Saturday 5 September 2026.

The event, held in honour of the heroes who gave their lives that day, begins and ends at Fire Station 1. The race starts at 7:30 a.m.

Registration is open through 4 September at www.ActiveEdinburg.com, with a fee of $20 per person. Shirts will be provided to the first 300 runners.

Packet pickup is on Thursday 3 September from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday 4 September from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department, 315 Mark S. Pena Drive, and on race day at Fire Station 1 from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m.

The free honorary walk is on Friday 11 September 2026 at Fire Station 1. A remembrance ceremony begins at 8:45 a.m., with the ringing of the bells, the wailing of sirens and TAPS in tribute to the victims. The walk then begins at 9:11 a.m., covering a 911-metre route around City Hall and back to the station.
