A demonstration. This is not the city's website. It is a working proposal for the City of Weslaco, built with the city's real seal, officials and departments. Every agenda item, vote, vehicle and dollar figure is invented, and each page says so. The city

News

City news and notices — every one of them as text, in both languages.

Why these six

4 of the 6 appear on the city’s own front page as nothing but a poster — a picture with the date, the hour and the address set inside the pixels, drawn as a CSS background image, which cannot carry alternative text at all. A screen reader reads nothing from those. A search finds nothing in them. They cannot be translated, and they blur the moment anyone enlarges the page.

To be fair to the city: open the item itself and the text is there, written properly. That is what is reproduced above. The front page simply does not show it, and the front page is where most people stop — so the fix is not a plugin, it is showing the words the city already wrote.

Nothing on this page is an image of text. A notice that only exists as a picture of a flyer has not been posted to most of this city.
