The Longest Causeway Run and Wellness Walk crosses the Queen Isabella Causeway between Port Isabel and South Padre Island — a bridge that is normally the only way onto the island by car, closed to traffic and given over to people on foot.
That is the whole appeal. You are walking or running across open water on a structure you have only ever driven, in January, with the Laguna Madre on both sides.
