Harlingen is the hinge of the Valley. It sits in the middle of Cameron County with the airport almost everyone flies into, roughly halfway between Brownsville and the mid-Valley, and about an hour from both ends of the region. That geography made it one of the Valley's main Winter Texan hubs, with a heavy concentration of RV parks in and around town, and it shows up in the calendar: craft fairs, markets, food events, and a downtown that programs through the season. Taste of Harlingen brings area restaurants together for a single evening of tastings.
Harlingen is where the Valley's two audiences physically overlap more than anywhere else: a Winter Texan couple and a Valley family at the same downtown market on the same Saturday morning, which almost never happens in McAllen and never happens on the island.
