South Padre Island is the Valley's beach destination and its most seasonal events market by a wide margin. The season runs from spring break through the summer and into the fall fishing tournaments, with SPI BikeFest — Roar by the Shore bringing concerts and vendor rows to the island for a long weekend each spring, and the Longest Causeway Run arriving from the Port Isabel side in January. Sea Turtle Inc. Note what is not here: this is a resort island, not a parish-fundraiser town, and you will not find a jamaica on it.
The island and Port Isabel are two minutes apart and the causeway is the only road on or off. The detail that matters most for anyone planning around it: South Padre runs on an inverted calendar. It is busiest in March and through the summer, when the rest of the Valley is at its quietest, and it is quiet in December, when the rest of the Valley is at its fullest. Anyone treating the Valley as one events market gets this backwards every single year.
