Arts & culture
Ballet folklorico, mariachi programs, museum openings, and university theater run through the year, concentrated around McAllen, Edinburg and Brownsville but present in every city with a school district.
The Valley's arts calendar runs on a school year rather than a season, and its largest single engine is not a theater — it is the school districts. Neither of those art forms is translated on this site and neither should be: a ballet folklórico is not a folk dance troupe and a mariachi is not a band.
If you are new to the Valley and want one thing from this category, make it a school folklórico performance. It costs little or nothing, it fills a gymnasium, and it will tell you more about this place in ninety minutes than any museum will.

We never invent an event to make a category look busy. If a category is thin, it is thin — and we would rather show you that honestly than waste your Saturday.
