What to look for in Raymondville
Qué Hay organizes events by the categories people here actually use.
Raymondville is the Willacy County seat and the northern gateway to the Valley. Willacy is the smallest of the four counties at roughly 21,000 residents, and the events calendar is correspondingly compact: school, church, county and city events, plus the seasonal programming that comes with being on the road everyone drives in on. Anyone arriving in the Valley by car from San Antonio, Houston or Austin passes through here first, and anyone leaving passes through here last — which gives a small town an outsized amount of through traffic and very little of the tourism infrastructure that usually follows it.
The detail worth being honest about: Raymondville's calendar is genuinely small, and that is exactly why it belongs on this site. A product that covers only the cities with arenas tells someone here that nothing is happening, when what is actually true is that the three things happening this weekend were announced in a church bulletin and on a marquee outside the high school.
