This demonstration is built to be usable by everyone who would use the real thing — nurses on a night shift, a patient with low vision reading a discharge sheet, a daughter translating for her mother, anyone working one-handed while holding a phone.

The target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the standard the U.S. Department of Justice adopted for state and local government web content in April 2024. The Starr County Hospital District is a governmental body, so that rule reaches this hospital's own web content. Where WCAG 2.2 costs nothing extra to meet, this site meets it too.

What that meant in practiceQué significó eso en la práctica
Spanish is not a widget. Both languages live in the markup of every page, written by a person. Nothing is machine-translated at read time, and the language switch works with JavaScript turned off.

No accessibility overlay. There is no script bolted on top to fix this site at runtime. The page underneath is built correctly instead. The display controls in the header change this site's own styles; nothing is injected into anyone's markup.
