The hospital submits the bill to your insurance company and works to move the claim along. Your policy is a contract between you and your insurer, so the final responsibility for payment rests with you.

The hospital has a charity policy with poverty guidelines that are updated every year, and a sliding-fee schedule that determines eligibility. It also contracts a company to file Medicaid applications for patients who qualify. In the July 2026 board meeting, charity approved for the month came to $44,039.19.
